How is that a benefit of the lattice structure? In any DLT, only the owner of an address can create a conflict since he is the only one who owns the private key to that address (and can therefore issue double spends)? The only thing that a lattice structure does here is that it encourages (maybe even enforces) the reuse of addresses. But when it comes to “penalizing” the owner of an attacking address — thats possible with any underlying data structure.

Regarding reusing addresses: In most DLTs users are advised to never use the same address more than a few times. Most of the times, this is not due to some technical restrictions but due to the “non-repudiation problem”.

ELI5: If people only use a single address, it is possible to map addresses to users and this in turn means that it will be public knowledge what every single individual owns, when and with whom he transacts and ultimately even “what” he bought (if the merchants also use static addresses). And we are not talking about some “crazy” hacking … anybody who buys sth in a shop will reveal all of his financial status and history to the shop owner.
